Firewire Machadocado Surfboard Review by Daniel

Check out Daniel's stoked review of the Firewire Machadocado! He's blown away by this board's performance, saying it's "unreal" and "like cheating"! After riding the Sweet Potato for a year, Daniel was impressed by the Machadocado's speed, drive, and agility. He tested it at Tongs and Suicides in 3-4 ft waves and was thrilled with its capabilities.
Daniel shares his honest feedback on this board's concaves, fins, and overall performance. He's particularly stoked about the board's speed, saying it's "like cheating" and that it "holds beautifully" even in smaller waves. He also mentions that the concaves are "pretty deep" which makes the board turn "on a dime".
If you're in the market for a new grovel board, you won't want to miss this review! Daniel's enthusiasm is awesome, and he'll have you stoked to try out the Firewire Machadocado for yourself. Watch to the end for his verdict on whether this board is worth the hype!

Great review! Like you, I am around 178 pounds / 80- 81 KGS and wondering if you think you could have sized down from your 5'8 to a 5'6? Bowie Pollard's review said the 5'6 paddled great, more like 34 litres due to the plan shape. Which sounds bang-on for me. The Seaside at 5'8 was just too much foam forward for me. The Mashup at 5'9 is a wee bit big but still works great as its all down the middle. So, looking at the 5'6 Cado. Thanks for your time!! C

Aloha this is David , person that we reviewed on this his name is Daniel. he is a professional level surfer and his paddling powers really strong. He has really powerful legs. I think for most guys error on the little bit of volume doesn't hurt. It's the board feels a little bouncy. You can always use the Endorfins to make the board sit the leading edge of the fins are rounded, so it doesn't let the release as much in it holds. With the seaside, I totally know what you're talking about sometimes having a board with too much volume of foward some times It makes it hard to catch waves because you're fighting the volume on the nose. - David

@@hawaiiansouthshore Hi and thanks for your reply! I was meaning to ask the interviewer, who also said they had the 5'8 and is the same weight as me. Yeh the Seaside is very fun on its day but needs to be ridden super short due to the wide point, I feel. I sold mine and was going to size mine down to a 5'5/5'6, then saw this Avocado thing! :)

@@Craig-t2g Yes , I knew you were trying to shout out to Daniel in the video that was being interviewed. Im the person interviewing him. Daniel tried the Seaside but it was not his style of surfing. He's more of a HP Shortboarder. So as soon as you got on the Machado Cado he was stoked!! He's pretty picky about his boards and he's tried several other models and last year he settled into the sweet potato. Pretty much drove two boards into the ground. And he was searching for a new board since he was getting a little bored And he tried my Machado Cado and as you see in the video he's stoked. - David

@@felipep2666 it all depends on your paddling power, if you're surfing it on beach brakes that are not very powerful. I wouldn't go down too much but if you're surfing, a reef break in a shallow you'll probably be able to get away with it but when the waves get better and you're sitting in a deep water break. It might be harder.

    • @hawaiiansouthshore
      @hawaiiansouthshore 10 днів тому

YES I really like the Great White for sure! I totally know what you are saying and I thought the same thing about the nose digging but I didn't have any issue. The first time I rode it was with the Machado 2+1 and it felt really loose in the beginning Then I use the Rastovich 2+ one which by the way is the futures, in-house favorite fins. I'd like to way better, it had drive and hold your turns. After a few sessions I tried it again with the Machado 2+1. The waves were flat and not standing up and it was really good, especially for my my backside. I guess I just had to get used to the looseness of the board with those fins. I still have the Great White, I like to use it when the surf is a little better. I was using the El Tomo twin for three years then when I rode the Great White instantly, I knew it replaced that board. - David

Good interview. However, the available sizes is too big of a jump in litres between the sizes. Also, the Seaside has very thin tail too but the rails are less refined than the Mavacado and is more forgiving. I haven’t tried it but I think this is not ideal in mushy surf. I think it’s more suited to smaller punchier waves where majority of people are likely to use a dedicated shortboard. I’ll stick with my seaside which is easy to catch small punchy waves and still perform and Dom 2 in slightly bigger punchier waves and a modern mini Simmons for Uber grovelling. I think this won’t sell as much as previous FireWire boards released but you never know. Also, got a Twinzer fin board which personally is the better fin setup as it’s in between a twin and thruster with positive drive and good control. Saying all that, each to their own feelings/thoughts but FireWire should make a twinzer fin type board and market it…an alternative new feel and will be exciting!

Does he like this board better than his sweet potato? I noticed you all posted a video with this same dude 2 months prior of the video with his positive review on the fire wire. But it seems like something was missing and he wanted/ needed more. I been looking into the sweet potato for some time, but haven’t commit. And now this S Boss got my attention. Specially because I grew up surfing with Macy all my childhood years and we always looked up to Macy with the way he ripped. We were those younger ripper’s beside him. But only got enough money to buy one board. That could make it or break it 🙏🏽 🤙🏽 Mahalo for your review videos 💯

We have FW Rentals , check out our website and book a board. 2 days of rental fees goes towards a new board as long as you purchase the board in 30 days. Some guys will use the board in the morning and switch it out with another board in the afternoon and come back to the next day. We allow that too without extra charge.. - David

What’s the difference in the ride vs the cymatic?

I asked the guys at FW to help out on this and here is the reply - The Omni will hold and work better in a more pockety wave, it has a pulled in round pin tail vs the Cyamtic with that wider bat tail which gives the Omni more bite and grab in steeper waves. The Omni is geared for better hollower waves and more trust worthy then the cymatic in steeper faces. The Cymatic will grovel better in smaller waves and I feel it works best in waves from 2-4ft as the Omni is more geared toward 3-6ft waves. Both I would recommend at quad fin set ups.

@@hawaiiansouthshore thanks for getting back to me on that. I had a Cymatic and it did surprisingly well on steep faces. Never tried it in hollow waves though but it sounds like Omni is a step up version of the Cymatic. Good to know. I regret selling my Cymatic and hope to find another one someday 🙏🏾

Is it possible to record the number of Electromagnetic Inductions or encounters to amount a list of possible encounters avoided? Maybe have FCS able to upload the data somewhere?

Does it work well without the trailer? There's a lot of rail in the water!?

I surf this with the Mark Richards 2+1, but if you want to twin fin it, I'd recommend using Keel fins. - David
